Lead Testing in N.Y.C. And New Jersey
New York City has strengthened its lead laws, including Local Law 31 of 2020, which requires EPA-certified inspections for lead-based paint in older residential buildings every five years, or annually if children under six live there. Similarly, New Jersey law from 2022 mandates visual lead-paint inspections, triennial lead dust wipe samples, and a Lead Safe Certification for pre-1978 rental properties. Additionally, New Jersey requires health providers to screen all visiting children under six for lead exposure.

In New Jersey, given the prevalence of pre-1978 lead service lines, we inspect drinking water for lead in accordance with state law and J.A.C. 6A:26-12.4 code. Dust wipe samples are collected from areas prone to dust accumulation or where paint deterioration is noticeable. Additionally, soil from your vicinity, especially areas frequented by children, is analyzed for lead content in our labs.
